Founded
The New Mexico School of Mines was established by a legislative act in 1889 (1889 Laws of N.M., Chp. 138, Sec. 1). In 1951 a legislative act changed the name to New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (1951 Laws of N.M., Chp. 46, Sec. 1).

Located in the colorful and historic Rio Grande valley, New Mexico Tech has a beautifully-landscaped green campus and an adjacent 18-hole championship golf course.

Student Government
Every student at New Mexico Tech is a member of the Student Government Association (as long as that student has paid his/her student activity fee). As such, all Tech students are entitled to the benefits provided by the SGA.
